Sweetgum is a large, fast growing deciduous tree.  The star shaped leaves emerge green in the spring, and then change to shades of scarlet, and purple in the fall.  The flowers are inconspicuous but the fruit that follows is hard to miss.  The friut is a hard one inch ball of spikes.  At maturity this tree can reach heights of eighty to one hundred feet.

‘Rotundiloba’ is a fruitless Sweetgum.  The Fruitless Sweetgum only grows sixty feet tall.  The thick leaves are somewhat star shaped with rounded lobes.
