Plant Description:

Honey Locust is a very rapid growing tree with a short trunk and an open spreading crown.  The green leaves are bipinnately compound on young trees and become pinnately compound with age.  Clusters of small white very fragrant flowers bloom in the spring.  The fruit that follows flowering is a flat legume, or seed pod, that ripens in the fall.  Though the tree can reach fifty feet tall and as wide the small leaves and open branching structure produce little shade.
